Knowing how to build your own Indoor Aquaponics system will surely bring you numerous benefits. Primarily, being able to set up your home garden will bring you utmost convenience. This will also present you an exciting hobby and a good way to earn money.
Here are the steps you have to take:
1. Setting Up
Put up your system on an elevated surface with enough lighting. Then, place the filter on the reservoir. Make sure to rinse them first with water to ensure that they are clean and free from dirt or contaminants. Distribute the small stones evenly with a depth of about 2 to 3 inches from the surface of the filter. Next, pour water in the reservoir and other parts that have to be filled with water. Connect all the parts for circulating the liquid like the pump, tubing, and others. Assemble the parts for the heating unit too. To see that everything is running smoothly, make sure to test it.
2. Add The Necessary Substances
For this part, check the instruction for the liquid mixture to ensure that the water is not acidic enough for the plants or the fishes. The ideal pH level or the acidity of the water should be around 6 to 8.
3. Let The Bacteria Build Up
All you have to do is wait for the denitrifying bacteria to build up. This usually takes about 3 weeks.
4. Add Fish
The next thing you have to do after the waiting process is add the fishes in the tank. Add only 2 up to 3 fishes every 2 weeks.
5. Put Up The Growing Tray
For the tray where you can grow the plants, insert the tubes going into the reservoir of the fishes. Spread the small stones evenly to cover the whole surface. It should have a depth of about 2 inches. Then, place the seeds in the growing tray and make sure to seal all openings. In the mid part of the tray, set the vinyl pipe. Finally, put the tray on top of the reservoir.
